Sustainability at the Gartenhotel Crystal Not a marketing slogan, but a conviction that is put into practice

Sustainability has a long tradition at our hotel. The Wetscher family implemented the first sustainable measures back in the 1980s, including heat recovery systems and exhaust air utilisation. Even back then, 31 solar panels were installed to generate environmentally friendly energy. Six storage tanks in the cellar ensure that the energy collected is utilised efficiently. Around the year 2000, the hotel was connected to the district heating network, making it one of the first projects of its kind in the valley. The Gartenhotel Crystal has become a showcase project in terms of sustainability, not least thanks to the close cooperation with Holzbinder, the local pellet manufacturer right on the doorstep. The Gartenhotel Crystal proves that sustainable tourism is not only possible, but a living reality. With innovative technologies, regional cooperation and a clear commitment to the environment, the hotel remains true to its path – for a greener future.

Save energy with modern building technology

Our hotel is completely oil-free and does not use natural gas, but instead relies on renewable energies. In summer, modern solar panels supply the hotel with hot water and feed the underfloor heating in the wellness area. An intelligent control system ensures that the energy generated is used exactly where it is needed – for example to preheat the pool. Energy-efficient lighting using LED technology is also used. Induction hobs are used in the kitchen and other areas to minimise waste heat and thus further reduce energy consumption. One innovative solution is terrace cooling using water vapour, which not only effectively cools the outdoor area but also the interior. Thanks to the low water consumption, there is no need for conventional air conditioning systems, which saves both energy and resources.

Saving resources = protecting nature

At the Crystal Garden Hotel, sustainability goes hand in hand with economic efficiency. In addition to energy efficiency, a conscious use of water is also cultivated. Rainwater is collected and used for watering the garden – a simple measure that conserves resources and reduces costs. Rainwater from the hotel's roof is collected in a 10,000-litre storage tank and used in a targeted manner to save valuable resources. The extensive roof gardens not only offer a green retreat, but are also a paradise for bees and insects, which keep nature flourishing with their industriousness.

Short distances – less CO₂ emissions

At the Gartenhotel Crystal, we prioritise regional sourcing. Hermine Wetscher was the first customer of the nearby Alpine dairy – a sign of our long-standing relationship with local producers. Today, we attach great importance to seasonal and regional food from local suppliers. Our own produce from our garden also enriches the cuisine. We also favour businesses from the region when it comes to craft services and purchases. This saves on transport routes, reduces CO₂ emissions and supports the local economy.

Natural bathing pond – bathing in pure Zillertal water

At the Gartenhotel Crystal you can experience swimming fun without any chemicals. Our green pool is fed exclusively with clear, revitalised Zillertal water. A well thought-out regeneration zone with special water plants takes care of the natural cleaning, so that chemical treatment can be completely dispensed with. We also focus on sustainability in our in-house laundry: compatible cleaning agents and special dosing systems ensure environmentally friendly and resource-saving cleaning. This keeps our ecological footprint small – for a clean environment and pure bathing pleasure.
