January

Vacation month January

Welcome to the New Year! May it be healthy and fruitful! Many sleep late on New Year's Day. Others treat themselves to a New Year's concert and lavish breakfast.

Sun, fun, snow - Winter weeks in January.

On the first day of the new year, I like to go on a long, long walk early in the morning. This day is even more beautiful than others. It seems more peaceful. You can just go and go. The snow crunches with each step. Almost contemplative. And you can lose yourself in your thoughts and wonder what the year will bring. You can go on a walk

and it's almost as if your thoughts go on a walk too. In addition, I have time for a walk, because there is nothing new to do in the garden. It is sleeping deep and peacefully. You can feel how nature is gathering strength for the coming spring. Our ski region is quite different. Sleeping in is out of the question…

Ski and après ski
There are actually 4 large ski areas, 179 lifts, and 508 km of slopes. Whether for skiers or snowboarders, the variety here in the Zillertal is sensational. If you are looking for a really special tip for après ski, all I can say is that the offer in this area is just as diverse as the slopes. For tobogganing fans, the Hainzenberg is a must. This is the longest toboggan run throughout the Zillertal. A special recommendation is HochfügenNacht. With free night skiing, snow tubing, ski show, and much more, it is a real spectacle.
Cross-country
Would you like to enjoy the winter landscape away from the prepared slopes? Then you will be happy to know that we have a vast network of cross-country trails in the Zillertal such as the Strass-Schlitters trail, the Hochzillertal high-altitude trail, the Erlachloipe in Aschau, or the Ahrbachloipe in Stumm-Aschau. I especially recommend the high-altitude trail in Hochfügen. It starts right at the parking lot of the lift ticket office heading towards the Gamsstein. Over a length of 9 km, it includes an elevation difference of around 400 m. The Fügen-Uderns-Ried trail with a length of around 12.5 km is also excellent. You can access it not far from Gartenhotel Crystal below the valley station of the Spieljoch lift. It leads via Kapfing and Kleinboden to Uderns. You can then ski along the edge of the forest to Ried. I can only say one thing: a unique pleasure!

Ski huts

While we are on the subject of pleasure... there several ski huts here that you really have to visit. This includes the Kristallhütte in the Hochfügen/Kaltenbach ski area. It has certainly been popular for a long time but was recently distinguished as ski hut of the year, for good reasons of course. It is cozy like a pub but also sophisticated and stylish. Whether gourmet creations or hearty, traditional specialties, the kitchen will have you convinced. For fans of classic après ski, there is the Kohleralm. This Tyrolean-style hut is located in the Spieljoch ski area right at the mid station.

If you prefer a small and rustic atmosphere, the hut on the Geolsalm in the Spieljoch ski area is perfect. Here, you can enjoy Tyrolean home-style cuisine. There is one more highlight to recommend - it isn't necessarily a ski hut, but it is a true delight. Restaurant Alexander in Hotel Lamark at an elevation of 1,500 m has established itself as one of Austria's best gourmet destinations. The cuisine has been awarded with 3 toques and 5 stars. Wouldn't this be a wonderful idea for lunch?
